Winter Sonnet by Sally James
Solstice flew when darkness was at its peak
January’s door is opening slow
firelight’s flicker is the warmth we seek
light creeps in like our footsteps from the snow.
We welcome new as old now fades and dies
to look forward with fresh joy never fears
hoping no one will hear our plaintiff cries
see scars left on faces through falling tears.
Gone now the old selves who felt so much shame
now we march forward wounds are sore yet shine
we speak for everyone taking blame
hope is always there so all will be fine.
Forgiveness was the light that kept us sane
do not fret, live each day and start again.
