Yesterdays Faded Rainbows by Bernie Jordan
faded rainbows on crinkled paper
through barred panes
in lock down care.
The care home door
stripped of ‘Welcome’
said, ‘Window visits only.’
His window opened just a crack.
Straining her neck,
shouting through glass,
reaching him
with muffled mumble.
His fumbling fingers reached.
They palmed the window, hand against hand
soft flesh, smooth glass,
almost a touch,
His eyes met hers
faces open.
Their wants flood space between
Until he simply wants to brush stray hair from her face.
His smell imagined, grip unfelt,
Smears of hand gel,
Contact cut by glass.
She blew breathless kisses
And walked away
from window pain.
